A new mailbox has zero reputation. Sending real cold outreach on day one is the fastest way to land in spam — and a brand-new domain that suddenly emits hundreds of cold emails reads as compromised. The fix is a phased ramp: heavy warmup traffic early, gradually trading off to actual prospect outreach.

The three phases

• WarmupDays 0–5: 100% network warmup. Real inboxes open and reply to your messages so ISPs see positive engagement before they ever see your cold mail.
• RampDays 6–15: the split shifts toward 50/50. Daily volume continues climbing toward your target.
• Full sendDays 16+: ~20% warmup / 80% cold. Reputation is established and a small ongoing warmup signal protects it.

ColdRelay's per-mailbox ceiling

ColdRelay caps each mailbox at 4 emails/day total — 2 outbound to real prospects + 2 to the warmup network. That cap is what keeps deliverability strong long-term. If you need more outbound capacity, the answer is more mailboxes, not more volume per mailbox.

Recommended rollout

1. Authenticate the domain first (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). Warmup signals don't help an unauthenticated mailbox.
2. Run the full warmup ramp before sending a single prospect email.
3. Keep an ongoing warmup signal (~20%) in steady state — it protects reputation when reply rates dip.
4. Watch deliverability metrics on Postmaster Tools weekly. Catch reputation drops early.
